I recently wrote a paper on how to select a cat . I received this remark on that article, “Perhaps the article title should be, How To Get A Cat To Select You. Sofia” This comment got me to thinking that she is precisely right. You may select the cat but the cat takes its time to determine if it wants you. Case in point, I was asked to take a kitten from a friend of mine. I called her Dudette, (opposite of Dude) but she took to my wife and hated me. Go figure that one out.
How did these felines get to be so independent . Here is my theory. I recently saw on TV, that cats were the only animal to domesticate itself. It did this after man went from hunter – gather, to farming, and started storing their grain on their farms. The wild cats saw this as a constant food supply because the grain stored on the farm attracted mice, rats and birds. Thus these cats started staying around man , not in the household, but around the farm.
Man saw no need to chase the cat away because it was doing man a favor by eating the rodents and birds that ate man’s grain. In addition man so no need to bring the cat into the home because they had the dog to take care of the rodents in the home. Therefore, the cat remained outside till sometime around the time of the Egyptians, they were brought. This was done by the Egyptians to control rodents in the temples. Plus they were revered as gods or goddesses, and if you killed a cat it was punishable by death,
Being outside for all of those years and being allowed to be close to man , but not controlled by man till the Egyptians brought them in, made the cat very independent. The accepted position on why cats are independent is that they are solitary animals and hunt by them self. This may be true for most types of cat but what about the lion. Where there is one lion there are usually more .

Four Ways to Protect Your Furniture From Cat Scratching
If you like cats , you need to figure out how to protect your furniture from your cat’s scratching. Scratching is natural for felines so you would want them to persist. The problem then becomes how to get them to scratch where you want them to . Here are some tips on protecting your furniture .
1. Put foil on the ends of your furniture, like aluminum . Cats do not like to scratch on material like this.
2. Place double sided tape on your furniture. Cats will shy away from this material, too. .
3. Use a can filled with marbles . When your cat starts to scratch where you do not want him or her to, shake the can loudly. This will scare them away from your furniture. Soon they will associate the scratching with the loud noise and stop scratching there.
4. extend a scratch pad. If you provide an attraction to the pad, like a toy or some cat nip, they will use the pad instead of your furniture. Cat nip is one of the best ways to attract a cat .
These are just four methods of stopping your feline friend from scratching where you do not want them to. If you are thinking of de-clawing your cat, please do not do that . That robs your cat of their natural instincts , is very painful for them and may affect their personality.
If you have some other methods to stop your cat from scratching, please provide it in the commentary section of this article. I would love to hear of different methods to stop cats from scratching.
I used all of these methods to stop our cats from scratching our furniture, and they worked effectively . Now I just have the Emery Pad which is very effective and do not have to do the root three items I listed. I eliminated hair balls by using a hair brush known as furminator.

Pet grooming is essential for the well being of your four-legged friend. Dogs, cats and even rabbits need pet grooming, no matter if it is about nail clippings, de-matting and hair combing. Flees and ticks could be a problem if you don’t wash and comb the hair. Pet grooming makes your pet’s coat healthy and shiny, and these create the right premises for perfect skin health.
You can bond really well with your dog or cat when pet grooming. It is that part of the regular routine that leaves room for more affection and attention on both sides. Make sure you use a brush or a comb that is suitable for your pet’s coat, so that you don’t pull at the hair and thus cause pain to the animal. Pet grooming needs to be pleasant and comfortable for your pet. For hairy breeds, pet grooming takes a lot of time, which is why some dog owners prefer to cover these tasks with professional services that save them time and effort.
Nail clipping and hair cutting will also be performed when pet grooming. The eyes and the ears also require great care because the cleaning part has to be non-invasive and safe for the animal. There are serious consequences on dog behavior deriving from incorrect pet grooming: the animal may get agitated and nervous, it could mew, bark, scratch and bite. Such incidents occur not because you have a poorly trained pet, but because you’ve made some serious mistakes with pet grooming. The pet will associate grooming with pain if you cut its skin when nail clipping.
There are very many products that you can use to make pet grooming easy and pleasant. It is highly important to make time for such tasks regularly because your pet’s health depends on them. If you don’t groom the dog well, there are higher chances of tick-borne disease. Moreover, hair cutting and combing make heat bearable for thick-haired animals. You will certainly need professional help with exotic breeds.
Mention must be made that there are special pet grooming services conducted at the customer’s residence. You can pay for such a visit from a professional groomer if you don’t have the time to take the animal to the beauty parlor yourself. Whether you are in charge of pet grooming yourself or you choose a professional service, just don’t neglect it!
