Get Rid Of That Cat Scratch Fever

Posted by Bob Newman

Scratching is a natural behavior for cats, no matter how it might impact the fabric on your $5,000 new sofa. However, this is their way of telling you something, and not being deliberately destructive. They’re telling you they need to scratch something!

When his urge to scratch hits, he isn’t too picky about what to scratch. That could mean anything and everything in the wild. Your cat isn’t trying to damage your belongings. He’s trying to sharpen his claws.

A tree trunk in the wilderness or a post near a house are a cat’s usual scratching tools. But once inside your house, a cat doesn’t have a post or tree to scratch, so what it would do is look for wooden substitutes, like the exquisite coffee table you just bought for your family.

Removing your cat’s claws is a quick-fix solution, but not the only way around this. Instead of going to this extreme, set up a few standing scratch posts around your house for your cat to scratch. Allowing your cat to scratch on posts would satisfy their need to claw on things without having to risk your furniture.

Scratching means more to your cat than just a way to tend his claws. Cats are naturally playful animals, and one way they manifest their playfulness is by scratching. Cats can release a great deal of stress by using scratching posts.

Some cats use the post as a pretend playmate. Yes, that includes sharpening its claws for battle with household pests like rats. Your cat may even put a hold on the scratching post, making it look like an MMA fighter putting on a submission hold.

Have the scratching posts held down firmly on the ground. You don’t want to make them easy to tip over, because cat’s won’t find that any fun and would proceed to “take over” your dining table. If your cat plays with the scratching post when you’re home, but returns to the chair when you’re not around, you may have to resort to a trick.

Step one is to use cat repellent near the legs of your chair or dining table, or some bold – not mild – room deodorizer. Your cat will not enjoy scratching in that location anymore.

Place the approved scratched post in a location where the smell factor is neutral and where there’s some privacy so your cat can sneak up on the post as a pretend prey. Don’t be discouraged by funky-looking scratching posts that have seen better days.

What you can do instead is place a new post near any old posts until your cat starts using the new one. Old posts are only to be discarded when the new ones are showing some wear.

What do cats need?

The following are the things cats needs for better growth and development:

Cat food

Cats could be very greedy but you have to watch their diet. There is this right amount of food. When cats are younger than 12 weeks, they need to have 4 small meals but when they grow as old as more than 12 weeks; you could gradually trim down the number of meals to 2. Water must also be provided but milk is not encouraged for it would only cause diarrhea to cats. Feeding them with grass from time to time could also help out in their digestion of food.

Cat belongings

There are items you need to provide to your cat that would surely make it feel the comfort and in effect these things are sure help for you to have a clean and orderly home. One of the most important things you have to provide is the litter container. Well, cats may be clean animals but just to make sure, you place a litter container for your pet to use. This would let you overcome having a smelly home.

A post to scratch is another thing that must be provided by the pet owner. This would let the home furniture stay away from the scratches of cats when they are growing their nails.

Cat grooming

They also need to look good. Proper grooming must be given to cats. When they feel pampered, they would radiate it and echo it to you. When your cat is long-haired, see to it that you comb the hair daily and give your pet a generous bath from time to time. When your pet is short-haired, just see to it that you get rid of fleas and other parasites. They have to remove as much as possible for they may also go and stay in your belongings at home like carpets and others. Tooth brushing is also very hygienic.

These three important points must really be remembered for they would definitely make your cat pets live the best life with your care and your affection that they may also return the kindness back.
