You can contact breeders through shows, cat clubs, pet magazines, or online website. The advantage of acquiring a pedigree kitten is that each breed has a distinctive personality. You will have an idea of the temperament of your chosen kitten before you bring him home.
Kittens grow into cats, who can live as long as 25 years, so do not impulsively buy the first cute kitten you see. Be patient and do your homework to choose the exact kitten to suit your needs.
Longhair or Shorthair?
If you are undaunted by hair shed on your clothes, soft furnishings , and rugs , a long hair cat breed may be purr-fect for you.
Persian kittens need to be groomed every day. This is essential, because his beautiful fur becomes matted if it is not regularly brushed, and he will be susceptible to hairballs . Allow an extra fifteen minutes in your daily routine to care for your Persian kitten. Having been brushed , he will snooze happily all day without needing further attention. Persians are an excellent choice for active families who are not at home all day long.
Ragdolls and Birmans are lovely; they are intelligent, quiet and affectionate . These two cat breeds are an excellent choice for families with small children . These two breeds socialize well with other animals, making them a perfect choice for dog owners . They need grooming every two or three days to remove dead hairs.
The Maine Coon is an ideal pet for the family that has plenty of outdoor space. Maine Coons are sociable and adventurous – they love to explore the great outdoors. He will not like being restrained indoors. This long haired breed does not need much grooming – a great choice for busy cat owners.
Would a Shorthaired Kitten suit you best?
The elegant Siamese craves human company. These enchanting cats are very attached to their owners; a great breed for elderly people and those with plenty of time to spend with their kitty. He is highly intelligent and very active. These playful kittens are more fun than a barrel full of monkeys, and they have a very unique meow that sounds a lot like a baby crying. The Siamese is probably not the best choice for people who are away from home much of the time – they need companionship and attention.
A Burmese kitten is less demanding then a Siamese, whilst having similar characteristics. The friendly and playful Burmese is a favorite playmate for young children. A Burmese kitten will need to be kept indoors or caged. He is likely to wander away from home, if he is left unattended outdoors. Like all cats, your Burmese should not be let outdoors; this breed has a tendency to wander. The Cornish and Devon Rex kittens are intelligent and quiet. These cats appeal to owners who prefer a less active and demanding kitten. Because of the signature Rex curly hair, these kittens will not leave as many hairs on your clothes, furniture, or carpet. If you have an asthmatic family member, a Cornish or Devon Rex is the kitten for you.
Once you have decided on a kitten, ask to see the mother cat. You can satisfy yourself that the mother cat has a good temperament and is healthy. Do not be afraid to ask questions. A reputable breeder will be happy to solve any concerns you may have.
Careful thought and research before purchasing a kitten will ensure you have chosen the pedigree best suited to you and your family’s lifestyle.
